Joan Esper Kuhnly has over 20  years’ experience teaching nursing in the classroom, clinical, and simulation settings.  Her research has focused on lactation, empathy and experiential learning using simulation as pedagogy.  Her research has also included topics on stigma and substance use, end of life, interprofessional education and study abroad with nursing students.  She believes strongly in the scholarship of application maintaining clinical practice currency to benefit students.  Joan currently practices as an advanced practitioner and neonatal nurse practitioner in the maternal, newborn and lactation arena in hospital and private practice settings.
