Northwester Nursing Students Gain National Experience at Charlotte Conference

In March, Northwestern Professor Bree Grealis and Associate Professor Nicole Cesarek accompanied six second-year nursing students to the Nursing Care Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. The trip marked the culmination of a year-long project led by Professor Grealis, in which students served as members of the conference planning committee.

Students Kelsey Armstrong, Madison Flebotte, Karrie Kent, Mapalo Martin, Ashley Garcia and Tay Major met monthly with nursing professionals and the conference organizer to help shape the conference agenda and provide feedback on speaker selections and session topics. At the conference, the students served as moderators and presented posters on research topics of their choice.

The group was joined by Northwestern graduate and former conference attendee Lauraine Nicholls, RN. Funding support from the Greenwoods Scholarship Foundation helped offset travel and conference costs. This marked the second consecutive year that Northwestern students and faculty have participated in the Nursing Care Conference with support from thefoundation.
