Biography

Dr. Lisa Thompson is an accomplished Registered Nurse with experience in nursing leadership, administration, management, and education ensuring delivery of quality patient care within complex healthcare settings. She has been a Registered Nurse for 41 years. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and a Masters of Nursing Education as well certifications as a trainer for Crucial Conversations and The Leadership Challenge. During her career, she has filled multiple roles in nursing including critical care staff nurse, nurse manager, nurse educator, and nurse administrator. She recently retired from a national hospital system where she served as the corporate Vice President for Professional Development. During her career she served as the CNO for several small hospital corporations in Northeast Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, and as an Interim Director of Nursing for various corporations through her company Successful Outsourcing Strategies.
Dr. Thompson also served in a variety of roles within VHA including interim Chief Nursing Officer for the Alexandria, LA, VAMC, the VHA National Program Manager for the pilot phase of the Aspire Program supporting VHA nurses who desired to become future Chief Nursing Officers, and at Robley Rex VA Medical Center as the Chief Learning Officer for 8 years. In this role, she provided consultation, mentoring, and training for a variety of staff including facility Senior Leaders, Service Chiefs, supervisors, and aspiring leaders. Dr. Thompson served on numerous organizational and regional committees during her time at VHA, including Education, Employee Development, Strategic and Succession Planning, and the facility Leadership Council. Prior to her tenure at VHA, she was self-employed for 8 years filling a variety of consulting, education, and interim management roles in several large national corporations including Catholic Health Initiatives and Scripps Healthcare Corporation. To maintain her competency in nursing education, Dr. Thompson serves as adjunct faculty with three different national university systems in their BSN, MSN, and/or DNP nursing programs.
Her professional achievements include successfully running a home-based business for 25 years, demonstrating flexibility by serving in administrative roles in acute-care, long-term care, and educational settings, and developing and implementing a variety of educational programing. She has the ability to reorganize effectively, demonstrated by streamlining existing clinical operations, and managing an organization’s resources and finances in a cost-effective manner. She possesses superb communication skills, and ability to establish trust with internal staff and external customers, including executives and multi-disciplinary teams, other healthcare organizations and state and local agencies. She has served as a speaker to a variety of audiences both nationally and internationally.
